North Fork Spillway and Embankment Improvements

The North Fork Spillway and Embankment Improvements Project was designed to update the North Fork Reservoir dam to make the dam more resilient in the face of possible but unlikely storm events. 
 

Challenge

The dam was raised by four feet, with added earth buttressing to reinforce seismic stability, and the principal spillway was improved while a new auxiliary spillway was constructed.
 

Solution

GZA assisted Phillips & Jordan with the installation of an Automated Data Acquisition System (ADAS). The instruments installed include vibrating wire piezometers and vibrating wire weir monitors. GZA initialized all of the instruments and configured the real-time data management system using a cloud software.
 

Benefit

GZA’s expertise with the proposed instrumentation solution enabled the construction project to be completed on time and provided the owner’s engineer with the ability to remotely monitor the dam’s performance during its lifetime.
