- Group of 40+ Engineers Specializing in GeoStructural and Structural Engineering
- 20 + Registered Professional Engineers
Licensed in 18 States - 100+ Years of Combined GeoStructural/Structural Engineering Services Experience
- Performed 400+ GeoStructural/Structural Projects/Tasks in the past 5 years
Our combined Geotechnical and Structural Engineering experience varies from support of excavation systems, anchored retaining walls, ground and surface water control, foundation design, temporary structures, foundation underpinning, demolition and erection, construction sequencing, and contactor delegated design everything in between and beyond.
We collaborate with other engineers, architects, owners, fabricators, manufacturers, and contractors to develop value engineered solutions unique to a Project’s requirements. We work with private sector, local, and state authorities such as mass transit and departments of transportation. We aim to be a part of your team’s success by implementing creative, value engineered solutions to safely satisfy your unique project requirements, budget, and schedule.
GZA’s Structural Engineers have a passion for developing engineered solutions for difficult construction and demolition challenges. We are not just engineers, we are advocates for our clients, working as an integral part of the Construction Team to solve problems and advance projects forward. We are a Team of Engineers who understand the challenges that Contractors face, with technical constraints, budgets, schedule, equipment, material and staffing availability, and access issues. GZA thrives in the fast-paced and fluid environment of Construction to work with our clients, solving problems and taking ownership of project engineering requirements.
Our Structural Engineers have the experience to develop rapid solutions to problems to quickly determine feasibility of a proposed solution. Furthermore, we work closely with our clients to refine our solutions to optimize efficiency under the constraints of the project and our clients’ resources. We do this through the use of modern structural modeling and analysis techniques, paired with classical hand calculation techniques and common sense to complete design packages that are easy to understand by field personnel and comprehensive enough to satisfy reviewing authorities. We go a step further, than this by being boots on the ground working by our clients’ side in the field to implement what we put on paper. This adds an extra layer of value to what we do by being there if problems arise to take action when needed. When the need arises, GZA’s Structural Engineers work closely with our in-house Instrumentation and Monitoring Team to track and alert the Construction Team to movements or vibrations in the structure that are imperceptible to humans. This information paired with GZA’s presence on site gives the Construction Team a full picture and piece of mind that the plans are being implemented correctly and the structure is reacting as anticipated to the various stages of Construction or Demolition.

Surveys are a powerful tool to limit risk and liability when performed prior to construction activities.
The Pre- and Post- surveys can be compared side by side to confirm if claimed damages have occurred. Typically, representative high-definition photos are taken along with a detailed narrated high definition video. The pre-construction survey can be complemented with the installation of optical crack gauges on existing cracks, automated deformation monitoring, and vibration monitoring within the site vicinity during construction.

GZA is routinely engaged in the design of support of excavation systems required for underground foundation and utility construction.
For both temporary and permanent support systems, GZA uses state-of-the-art modeling methods and other analytical tools including finite element analyses to prepare complete design packages from simple cantilever wall systems to braced excavation systems for deep cuts requiring multiple support levels.
