GZA wins Connecticut Port Authority contract for Fort Trumbull Pier 7 upgrades in New London

NORWOOD, Mass., and NEW LONDON, Conn., April 4, 2019--GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA), a leading multi-disciplinary firm providing geotechnical, environmental, ecological, water, and construction management services, has won a Connecticut Port Authority (CPA) contract to provide design and engineering solutions for repairs and modifications of Pier 7, located at Fort Trumbull in New London.

With Connecticut offices in Glastonbury, Manchester, and Trumbull, GZA will work closely with the CPA and the pier’s owner, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), on the state’s $750,000 investment at Fort Trumbull State Park. Engineers from GZA will evaluate and advise CPA and DEEP officials on the extent of upgrades required at Pier 7, including water/sewer, electrical, lighting, and other infrastructure improvements. CPA and DEEP are exploring plans to support use of the pier by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and visiting cruise ships and tall ships. The pier, located on the Thames River, is adjacent to the Coast Guard’s Station New London.

GZA CEO Patrick Sheehan said: “GZA is honored to be providing expert guidance to the Connecticut Port Authority and Connecticut DEEP as they pursue this exciting plan to revitalize Pier 7 in one of New England’s most iconic and vibrant waterfront locations. Welcoming more Navy and Coast Guard port calls and visits by vessels of all kinds to New London represents a significant economic development opportunity for Connecticut that GZA is excited to support.” The contracted scope of work will also include providing documentation and analysis to support the CPA as it pursues necessary state and federal permits to bid out a reconstruction of Pier 7.
