GZA has been honored by Climate Change Business Journal (CCBJ) with its 2023 Business Achievement Award for GZA’s work on a “living shoreline” project to improve coastal climate resiliency in New Haven, Conn.
Honored in CCBJ’s Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience awards division, the New Haven project GZA has designed and engineered will, when complete, be the largest living shoreline project in New England, encompassing 3,400 feet of shoreline and 46 acres of coastal property. The design includes construction of offshore rock sills for wave attenuation, creation of additional salt marsh landward of the sills, placement of sediment fill and plantings to accommodate future marsh migration, and removal of invasive species.
GZA President and CEO Patrick Sheehan said: “Developing innovative, nature-based approaches to controlling and mitigating the impacts of climate change on coastal properties is one of the signature practice areas for GZA and our Design With Nature Studio team. On behalf of everyone at GZA, I want to congratulate our Design With Nature team for receiving this prestigious, much-deserved recognition from CCBJ for their visionary work to protect and revitalize New Haven’s waterfront.”
