Ed Summerly has been with GZA for over 30 years and is a Principal and Senior Vice President located in the Providence, Rhode Island branch office. He serves as GZA’s corporate Solid Waste Technical Practice Lead and provides senior management of Solid Waste, and Environmental Investigation and Remediation projects. He is a licensed professional geologist.
Mr. Summerly has directed site investigations (soil, groundwater, surface water, air), environmental compliance programs, permitting projects, and testing at more than 30 solid waste management facilities. Ed serves as manager and technical lead on multi-disciplinary studies and design projects focusing on contaminated sites requiring assessment of environmental contamination (soil, groundwater, surface water, air), human health and ecological risk management and site remediation/restoration. His responsibilities include: technical direction, contract management, project planning, budget control, and quality assurance. He has managed numerous Superfund, RCRA Corrective Action and State lead studies involving remedial investigation (waste identification, groundwater, surface water and geologic characterization) groundwater contaminant migration evaluation, human health and ecological risk assessment/risk management, and public relations.
His professional activities include membership in the Solid Waste Association of North American (SWANA), the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), and Rhode Island Society of Environmental Professionals (RISEP). He also serves on the board of the RI Chapter of the Environmental Business Council (EBC).
