Stormwater and Pollution Prevention Permitting for New England Airports

GZA has worked at numerous airports in New England on stormwater permitting related projects.  GZA has prepared and peer reviewed SWPPPs under the NPDES MSGP program for many airports including Martha’s Vineyard Airport, Beverly Municipal Airport, Mansfield Airport, Westfield Barnes Airport, New Bedford Regional Airport, Taunton Municipal Airport, and Orange Municipal Airport.  SPCC Plans were also prepared for Martha’s Vineyard Airport and Beverly Airport.  As part of our client services, GZA has provided ongoing support for these airports as they work toward permit compliance, including sampling, follow up field investigations, and SWPPP updates in response to new construction on the properties.  In addition, recommendations regarding potential spill prevention and control Best Management Practices (BMPs) were made as part of GZA’s work, including recommendations for drainage system improvements to implement with new construction or system upgrades.  GZA understands the funding constraints small airports often face and assists these airports in scheduling improvements within Master Planning efforts.

GZA has extensive experience with all aspects of the NPDES permitting programs, including the Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from Industrial Activities, under which most airports file their stormwater discharges.  As a service to our clients, GZA has conducted stormwater and SPCC permit compliance presentations at the Massachusetts Airport Management Association Conference, keeping airport managers up to date on the ever-changing regulations and assisting them in their compliance efforts.
