GZA Award Grant to the Rhode Island Forest Conservators Organization (RIFCO)

GZA awarded a 2014 Shareholder Grant to:

William Fortune (GZA Providence, RI) for his work with the Rhode Island Forest Conservators Organization (RIFCO).  RIFCO’s mission is to promote the stewardship of Rhode Island's wooded lands and watersheds, aesthetic and recreational amenities, forest products, clean water, clean air, and varied wildlife. Part of what RIFCO does is to provide educational workshops; educational outdoor tours all open to the general public; as well as maintaining a demonstration woodlot. The grant will be used to hold a statewide expo and educational event in the next year. The event is proposed to be an all-day event that is open to the general public with a series of speakers presenting on topics that are relevant to RIFCO’s mission. Topics will include forest health, forest sustainability, promoting markets for local forest products and other topics. The goal is to provide an educational opportunity to the general public with the hope that this event will translate to advancing RIFCO’s mission.
