Environmental Impact Studies

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. has professional planners and scientists that evaluate and prepare National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related compliance documents for various public and private transportation, utility, energy, and development projects throughout the U.S.

In addition, GZA experts also assist clients in complying with numerous states NEPA-type laws and regulations that require similar report production and public participation efforts (e.g., New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and California).  GZA routinely prepares Environmental Assessments (EA)/Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSI) or Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) as well as environmental review records to support Categorical Exclusions (CE).  Many states have agencies that regulate the siting of major utility infrastructure facilities such as power plants and transmission corridors.  Those agencies also require environmental impact analyses to support their decisions in the siting approval process.

Public involvement is a fundamental aspect of NEPA.  As such, the ability to convey complex environmental and engineering concepts in a simple, concise and understandable fashion is paramount to a successful project.  GZA’s experienced writers and GIS/CAD specialists are skilled at adapting detailed plans and analyses into formats that are readable and understandable to the general public.

NEPA requires that all elements of the physical, natural and socioeconomic environment be analyzed so that an agency’s decisions incorporates concern for the natural and man-made environment.  GZA is configured to handle the breadth of study required by NEPA and the NEPA-related state laws and regulations.  This ranges from evaluating the effects of a project on low income and minority populations to the analyzing the impacts on endangered birds.  GZA’s NEPA technical services typically include:
